Orange, Sweet Essential Oil

SAFETY: Use in moderation as it may irritate the skin, blend with lavender for longer term use.  Slightly photosensitizing.

Uses:

The scent of orange reduces anxiety and lightly lowers high blood pressure. Use Orange in a massage to relax and provide energy after a hard days work, or for a facial massage.  Orange makes an excellent body moisturizer, and a few drops added to a facial wash or shower gel encourages radiant, younger looking skin.

Orange oil can be effective to the immune system for colds and flu and can help eliminate toxins, and as a diuretic it is useful for water retention and obesity.  A massage oil eases indigestion and may ease constipation and water retention.

Although not as antiseptic as lemon, orange essential oil still combats flu and colds.  Diffuse Orange to help ease symptoms of bronchitis, colds, chills, and the flu, and to soothe stress and depression.  During times of illness, diffuse orange in the house as an environmental disinfectant.    Orange has excellent de-greasing and cleaning properties.

Origin of sweet orange essential  oil:

The orange tree was brought to the Mediterranean from Asia by the Saracens during the Crusades. It now grows in Sicily, Israel, Spain, and the United States.This evergreen tree has dark green leaves and white flowers, and bright orange round fruit with roughish skin.

Orange oil is used in many Curacao type liqueurs and for the flavoring of food, drink and confectionery.

Extraction:

Orange oil is extracted from the orange peel by cold-press and yields 0.3-0.5%.

Chemical composition:

 D Limonene, n-decylic aldehyde, Linalool, Terpineol and b-carotin.

Blends well with:

Cinnamon, Clove bud, ginger, Sandalwood, Vetiver
